Vertical Rope Rescue Training at Mount Cook

ARC together with members from LandSAR Dunedin, Wakatipu ACR and Franz Josef ACR gathered at the Aoraki/Mt Cook SAR base in late January to train in single pitch fundamentals.

This was a pilot course which included a thorough review of basic ropework skills all the way through to complex team-based stretcher haul & lower scenarios on steep bluffs near the village.

The training was delivered by David Lewis, George Loomes and Bia Boucinhas from the Aoraki/Mt Cook Alpine Rescue Team (AMCART), with technical review from Grant Prattley.

This training was extremely useful to consolidate ropework and anchor techniques, and learning how to manage lowering and hauling a stretcher to a victim in steep terrain.

Many thanks to AMCART for the excellent training.
