Alpine Rescue for the Canterbury Region

Alpine Rescue Canterbury is a team of highly skilled alpine rescue personnel that respond to search and rescue operations in the Canterbury region. These operations require technical skills in terrain that is beyond the scope of normal rescue services.

We are climbers who want to help our fellow climbers when they are in need. We volunteer because of our sense of community and connection to the mountains.

Our team is made up of experienced mountaineers & climbers, instructors & guides, paramedics & doctors, who are all trained in the following areas:

  • Mountain rescue
  • Crevasse extraction
  • Avalanche rescue
  • Steep bush or rock rescues
  • Rough terrain stretcher lowering
  • Helicopter strop and winch rescues
  • Vertical rope rescue

Our team are available 24/7 to be mobilised by the Police or the NZ Rescue Coordination Centre.
